Alberta Lamb Producers (ALP) has been in ongoing discussions with other provincial boards, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and our producers regarding the proposed changes to national traceability requirements.
We have heard the concerns raised by producers, and as elected representatives of the industry, we cannot support the proposed federal livestock traceability requirements in their current form.
ALP continues to monitor CFIA developments and any potential changes. We will take every opportunity to provide input on traceability and its impacts on Alberta’s sheep industry. An effective traceability system is important; however, to achieve its intended outcomes, the system must also be practical and workable for producers and industry to implement.
For clarity, Alberta is not a member of the Canadian Sheep Federation (CSF). Any communication from other sheep producer groups does not represent ALP unless it is issued directly by Alberta Lamb Producers.
